2. BMW R1200 GS Adventure (2011) Updated

I have done almost everything with that bike.

    Long distance Trip? Done.
    Short weekend trip? Done.
    OffRoad? Done.
    Extreme Offroad? Done.
    RaceTrack? Done.
    City run? Done.

And it shines on all and every aspect of motorcycling. Low fuel consumption (given it's weight and power), awesome torque, handling on pavement is just awesome, offroad handling is not that great, but once you get used to the telelever shit... it will bring you anywhere no matter what.

So far, If I had to buy another motorcycle today.... i would buy exactly the same bike. :)

Amazing bike. Little high geared for my style of off-road riding. Excellent suspension and plenty of power.

Biggest bike I have owned. After a year, I still find the big girl intimidating... but I'm learning and appreciating it more and more.

  7. Triumph Tiger 800 XCx (2015) Updated

I can't speak as to comparisons with other XC's but for me the c model just made sense with the WP suspension and special mappings. This thing rails out of the box in a very surprising manner for such a large bike on such silly rubber. Really the only bad point of the bike outside of some of the plastic stuff doesn't impress close up but there are aftermarket alternatives .
I've ridden it 300 miles of 70/30 and so far in that hundred miles of off road I felt darned near as in control as I do on my YZ or XR over the same ride excepting slick clay mud from log trucks and grass.which made kitty want to either roll or take a nap due to the tires. Other than that it is as competent over loose terrain as it is tarmac and it represents a serious attempt by Triumph to upgrade an already successful ADV bike to something better.
UPDATE: 09/27/16..... Still feel this is a great effort on Triumph's part. I'm over 16,000 now and can't see that any other bike in it's class would fit me as well. Just needed a couple hundred bucks in aluminum protective and adaptive stuff and a couple of good tires. Been to 4 states so far and looking to add Canada and Mexico soon.

  9. BMW R1200 GS Adventure (2015) Updated

Superb long distance traveling GS. This 2014 R1200GS Adventure is thus far the most competent do it all motorcycle that I've owned. I have the opportunity to ride all models of BMW motorcycles on regular basis, and if I had to own one from the entire line up it would be this bike. 300+ mile fuel range, great rider protection, comfortable riding position and features such as cruse control, and adjustable windscreen while on the way are just a few of the redeeming qualities. It's a pleasure to ride no matter how far both paved and dirt. However, your perspective of this motorcycle will grow as your ride takes you further and further away home.

  10. BMW F800 GS (2013) Updated

Currently I have two ponies I keep in my stable " garage" 2008: F650GS Dakar & 2013 F800 GS. I traveled most of the South East Coast all last year totaling a good 28,000mls mostly solo on the F650.I wanted a larger engine and have recently (Mid December) purchased the F800gs For a RTW/West coast exploration. I'm still getting comfortable with the 800's weight (especially packed with camping gear). I have had the honor of training and riding with some of XLADV riders. I believe we are headed to Lake Berryessa this weekend. I feel this is a great start to another awesome big bike community!

Still in honeymoon phase. Bike absolutely rips. An entirely new, raw experience compared to the R1200GS, and I'm still modding.

  13. BMW F800 GS (2013) Updated

I have had my 2013 BMW F800GS since September of 2012, and have since put 25k miles on it (and counting). It has proved to be a true all-rounder that excels at every task you put it to. Whether it is commuting, canyon carving, eating up freeway miles, packed to the brim for camping, single track, or fire roads, it seems to always be in its element. The only real complaint I have is the stock suspension, and it could use a little more POWER. For most people it is probably adequate. The specs can be deceiving, because it is an extremely versatile little Rotax with power and torque in every nook and cranny of the rev range. However, when you load it up with gear and try to do freeway speeds up steep inclines you can definitely feel the limitation. Other than that, my bike has been absolutely trouble free!

  15. Triumph Tiger 800 XC (2012) Updated

The Triumph Tiger 800XC is a very well made, light, and maneuverable bike. Very easy to handle off road with plenty of umph to hang on the freeway whilst traveling to your off-road destination.

  21. Honda XR650L (2008)

I love this bike. There's a reason Honda hasn't changed much 1993-2015. The seat isn't a sofa, but it doesn't punish you like a dirt bike seat. The stock shenko tires are pretty good all around tires. Accessories are plentiful and inexpensive. Nothing on the bike is going to overly impress you. It's the combination of basic components that work well and reliably.

The one significant weakness is the CDI unit.....they are subject to failure. If you start incurring random electrical glitches, you probably need to buy a new CDI unit $200. This is a known issue and it's unacceptable that Honda has not remedied the situation or provided extended warranty replacements with improved units.

Anyway, the bike is an outstanding value and a comfortable, reliable dualsport.
