  1. As everyone has said the bikes you are looking at will all do what you want. Some are better are certain parts than others. its always a compromise. I ride a suzuki vstrom 650 adventure and it fits my short legs and small stature. I didn't need the 1000. This one even loaded with my chub and 150 pounds of camping and fishing gear will still go faster than I am willing to go. Consider dealer availability for parts and service. There are big differences in what it costs to maintain some of the bikes you are looking at. look at gas mileage differences as well. It is nice to be able to get 50 miles to a gallon without really working at it. Look at available add ons because half the fun is customizing it to fit your style and purpose.

  2. I'm a 46 year young man that just re-discovered the fun of offroading :-) Used to ride MX when i was younger and the latest MX i had was a Husaberg 550 FC -03. After that i had 2 Suzuki gsxr 750 and a gsxr 1000 -03. That got boring and my neck hated the rideposition so a month ago i traded the Suzuki for a 2007 KTM 990 Adventure. Could not be more happy with this bike!

  3. The bike in the above video is mine...still in the shop. The dealer and Honda Canada have no idea what the issue is... I'm pushing for a new bike. The first 1000km were excellent and I was really happy with the bike. The DCT took some getting used to but once I got some miles on it I was very impressed. Despite what you may think, the dual clutch set up works extremely well in the dirt. I'm really bummed that it's sitting in the shop while the short Canadian riding season ticks away.

  4. Steve Kamrad (the yeti on the left) and Spurgeon Dunbar raced (and won) their Triumph Tiger 800's in this all day race in Canada. Full story here.

  5. Pirelli Scorpions , oem on my 990, chosen by the factory for all around use with decent street manners, lacking an inspiring grip off-road. TKC's next up, fast wearing if run primarily on tarmac but capable to a point off-road. Soon to be installed: Mitas E07 Dakar rear( won't that be fun to install) Pirelli Scorpion Rally front. Taking a chance on this pairing. Might convert my rear rim to tubeless if I can be convinced of the benefits.

  6. Just to be different, look at the Moto Guzzi Stelvio. Stock it comes with EVERYTHING. They are very easy to work on, last for three or four centuries, and have virtually no mechanical issues. A work of caution though. If you ride it 20 miles you will never buy one. Ride it 100 miles and you will never sell it.

  7. I also have a 990 ADV and enjoy the fact that it's such a unique riding experience w/ a true on/off road composure for getting out and exploring the countryside. An iron horse to be sure.
