this just might be the sweet spot between a 550 pound ADV and a gutless KLR. I have owned both.

The Camel Tank idea was conceived during my around the world motorcycle trip while I was riding through the deserts of Mongolia and Kazakhstan. Filling up with questionable looking gas out of pop bottles sold on the road side was less than ideal to say the least. My riding partners had bigger tanks or bikes that got much better fuel mileage. I was always the guy in the group that was low on fuel and it was frustrating and inconvenient. Enter Camel Tank! Easy to install, factory looking fit, and just fill with gas when you fill your main tank. Occupying the unused space between the rear tire and the pannier rack, the Camel Tank keeps the fuel weight low, balances out the weight of you exhaust systems on the opposite side and leaves your rear rack free for a duffle bag or top box. Add extra range to your KTM 1050/1090/1190/1290 ADV with the auxiliary gas tank from Camel Tank. Whether you need more fuel so you can iron-butt it to your next destination, explore a Backcountry Discovery Route, or simply want peace of mind knowing that you’ve got gas to spare, Camel Tank has you covered! CT-1X90 Fits With These Pannier Systems: No panniers*, Bumot, Touratech Zega panniers, SW Motech, KTM PowerParts(aluminum)**, and Holan*** Features: Holds 6 litres/1.5 gallons Fuel is automatically transfer from the auxiliary tank to the main tank Keeps fuel weight low and close to the bikes center line Leaves your rear rack free for a top box or duffle bag *We do not recommend use of soft bags without pannier racks. Unsupported soft bags can put a very large side load on the tank and brackets especially in the event of a bike drop on the left side. **KTM PowerParts racks require modification to clear tank ***Holan, spacers and longer bolts required

Amazing machine. I've noticed its not as high quality as a BMW but its definitely built for my riding style. KTM has come short on my deal and hasn't activated KTM my ride, hill assist, quick shift, or heated grips. They don't know how to make these options work. It's been a month sense I bought the bike and I haven't got to fully use my bike yet.

Supermini The SuperMini is a versatile, ultra compact, highly efficient light. It can be utilized as a general purpose light, an auxiliary light, or as the primary light for smaller vehicles. It features small dimensions and low power consumption, while still having high output for it’s size. Its size allows it to be placed on virtually any vehicle (Auto, Tractor, ATV, Motorcycle, etc.). The light can be ordered in four variations, WORK (wider work beam), MID (mid beam), FOG (fog light) and DRL (combination of lenses with DRL function). There are also special versions like RGB and invisible infrared versions which can be special ordered. Superminis are in use in hundreds of pieces on the rallys (eg. Dakar 2013), off road voyages in Africa, Asia and Europe, or even on baloons. Construction: 20 Watt power, > 1500 lumen High strength ultra compact aluminum CNC-milled housing Extreme environmental protection (IP69K Compliance) best available LED diodes Ruggedized high efficiency electronics Thermal, reverse polarity and overvoltage protection Built and tested in Europe with parts primarily sourced from European and American suppliers. Versions: Supermini MID Middle wide beam, 25° coverage. Range ~330 ft (100m). Supermini WORK Wide beam, 65° horizontal and 35° vertical coverage. Range ~165 ft (50m). Supermini FOG Identical to the WORK version but utilizes LEDs with a warmer light color for less glare. Check out the video review: Review 4XLED Supermini
  5. Hey All.... The Godfather of XL ADV Eric Hall suggested I start a thread to talk about DMC™ Technology. Here is a run down on what it is to get the conversation started. Give it a read and lets talk about it. - Kev DMC™ What is it? DMC™ is Dynamic Meshwork Communication. You should think of it as a new technology that makes communication and operation of our communicators an step, not a chore. DMC™ takes the procedure and "rules" out of pairing and staying paired. The DMC™ basically is a self healing mesh network that makes your communicator "smart". We have two communicators outfitted with DMC™ at the moment. They are the SMARTPACK and PACKTALK. Both of these units function the same way. Every 150/1000th of a second they poll the network and when issues or adjustments are required, they handle it. Regular bluetooth works well but in larger groups it can become restricting to follow the pairing order. DMC™ will dynamically change as the group expands, cotract, and changes. All on the fly and without your assistance. Once you have made the initial "handshake" with the group, riders in the group can enter and leave at will without touching a button. You are just remembered and brought in when you get within reception range of any member of the group. Advantages: No delay in communication - No mic to activate, it is always on and available. Noise filtering - mic is hot but it does not transmit most to all of the ambient noise when you are not speaking Uninterrupted music while riding - Continue to hear music in the background while communicating and mix the levels via the free SmartSet App Listen and speak with the entire group - Never worry about not reconnecting or cycling through to speak to one person or the other. It is a conference, not a toggle to talk connection. Software Updates - Regular and increasing functionality! IP67 - Water, Dust, and Dirt PROOF for any environment - Street and trail friendly. CARDO GATEWAY - Pair with any Bluetooth communicator from any manufacturer SmartSet App - Free app that controls the headset and communication Voice activated control Bluetooth vs. DMC™. The easiest way to explain it is, Bluetooth is a linear pairing (linked chain) solution while DMC™ is a fluid network that is intelligent and self-healing so that you don't have to think about the intercom, just use them. The Smartpack and Packtalk communicators do use Bluetooth in conjunction with DMC™ and allow users to pair all of their Bluetooth devices and use them as they would with all previous generations (and brands) of communicators. What It Means To You. In a word it is easy. Pairing can be difficult, keeping connections is a shell game and re-pairing every time the group changes takes away from the ride. DMC™ resolves all of these issues by taking care of all of that in the background AND at blazing speed. Here is a video that will help you understand the dynamic capability of DMC™. We started the wireless helmet communicator game and have pretty much continuously innovated motorcycle communication since. This is our most recent item that has changed the game and a giant leap forward. scalarider (aka Kevin)
  6. A very specific question: which stock seat is more low-seated, the 1190 R 1-pc rally or the 1190 2-pc touring? - There is no (clear) comparison of these 2 stock seats online. Dealers near me don't have a 1190 regular on their floor or a 2-pc stock seat for me to just go try on for comparison. As you may know, the 1190 R comes with the 1-piece rally seat (seat height 890mm), while the 1190 regular comes with the 2-piece touring (lower or higher position at 860mm or 875mm). - . My leg length is borderline for my 1190 R. Tippy-toeing is not safe for maneuvering slow uneven roads on a top heavy bike. And I do not want to do any lowering to compromise its suspension. Deciding which stock seat sits lower would give me clearer reference in choosing a lower aftermarket seat.

If you have any experience with Doubletake adventure mirrors, please add your star rating and review. 👍

This mirror is the product of much frustration- I spent years breaking other designs and wondering what was going on behind me on the road. Eventually, when I dropped my bike and found myself buying two(!) new master cylinders as a result, I decided it was time to make a really good mirror, one that would function well as a mirror, and also protect the bike (and me) from damage. I had three goals for my design: 1. That it work as well as an OEM mirror for seeing what was going on behind. 2. That it would be indestructible. It would have to give way in a crash to avoid damage not only to the mirror, but also to the bike. 3. That it could fold completely out of the way, so that when I am offroad, I don't have to think about it. Many experiments later, the mirrors for sale here is the result. Both models hit all three marks right on the nose. We use SAE spec glass to give maximum visibility (it can be important to distinguish Crown Victoria headlights from other vehicles!), it is made right here in Colorado Springs from a super tough nylon that we are so certain will survive we offer a lifetime warranty (on the housing, not the glass, but you can buy the glass seperately), and sure enough, it folds right down when you want it gone. If you're deciding between the Adventure model, and the Enduro, our advice is simple. If you plan to fold the mirror down a large percentage of the time, the Enduro is right for you. The long size means the head of the mirror tucks away right behind the headlight. If the mirror will more or less remain extended, get the Adventure- the more compact design is more stable at highway speeds. Either way, you can't go wrong.

  11. Motorcycle Tire Pump Comparo: The Top 7 Pumps for Your XLADV Motorcycle Portable air compressors have come a long way and now there are quite a few that are purpose-built just for us motorcyclists. Some have even been purpose-built for XLADV motorcycles as you're about to see. Thankfully we have a plethora of products to choose from and I'd say perhaps too many given some out there are obvious ripoffs of earlier innovators' designs. I've left those pumps out on purpose so if you see it here, you'll know you're likely to get an original and be supporting real XLADV motorcycle riders. I did learn quite a bit from some of the makers of these pumps so let me give you the 411: Yes most components are made in China but they've come a long way and are the best you'll find. Many are still assembled here in the US and are American small businesses you can trust. Most any pump will have heat issues. They're great for your own bike but most require a cool down period before you start to inflate a second tire. Most any pump is going to trip BMW's canbus system and will require a hard wiring to the battery for best results. They start fine but will trip once the pump is under load. A lot of the lower priced pumps work great but have shown poor reliability and are prone to breaking if dropped on a hard surface. All these pumps should be kept out of the dirt. A best practice is to hang off a peg or place on a mat or case the pump comes in. All will inflate your tire to about 40 psi in about 6-9 minutes. I can't really say which is the best pump out there; that's something you're going to have to figure out for yourself. But, I did think it would be fun to break these pumps down into sub-segments for a few well known ADV archetypes: The Starbucks Rider, The Hardcore ADV-Enduro Rider, and The Budget Conscious Rider. The Starbucks Rider You strike quite the figure in that genuine whale foreskin suit and that $30k top of the line behemoth XXLADV bike as you sip your latte and give knowing winks and finger-guns at your local coffee shop. Okay, so that's a bit over the top. Just a bit of fun! This type of rider really doesn't mind what a pump costs; they just want the best and will go with what they saw someone else have in their aluminum box style panniers. CyclePump from BestRest Products - $115.00 The CyclePump seems to be a popular pump ("30,000+ sold") and at $115 it's the most expensive in this comparison. I had a first generation version of this pump and did not have a good experience with it. But to their credit, they've continuously improved their product with a new chuck design, new housing mounts, subtle improvements in the compressor, and now rubber armored end caps. Despite the high price point, this pump does not come with a light or pressure gauge and is the heaviest and largest pump (XXLADV) in this comparison. (photo by Noah Horak; used w/permission) The Hardcore ADV Enduro Rider This rider is going purely on function and will spend a dollar if it means they're ensured of reliability when it counts. They don't care about plastic housing or maybe lights or gauges; they just need something that's purpose-built and going to work when they need it to. ADV Designs Micro Tire Pump - $79.99 The Micro Tire Pump is the product that started it all for ADV Designs. They set out to build the best motorcycle pump and tested many of the cheaper pumps finding that 50% of them failed! They found the best compressor motor available (used by a few others as well) and went for a function over form approach. Sure, it may look like it's from the former Soviet bloc but it's very popular and works well. They also won Overland's editor's choice for best value back in '08 and comes with a 1 year warranty. Motopumps Mini Pro Inflator - $69.99 Motopumps is another product created by a motorcyclist frustrated by three flats in 6 weeks costing him $380 in towing! He saw there weren't any good motorcycle pumps out there and set out to make his own; also using the best components: campbell pump; teflon coated pistons; metal gears; high air flow and more efficient (more air/less amp draw). The Mini Pro also comes with a 5 year warranty! They have a new Air Shot pump ($59.95) that is even smaller and lighter. The Budget Conscious Rider This rider is more likely to have a milk crate top box and a homemade camp stove made from an aluminum can. They get the most adventure value out of their dollar not because they are "cheap" but because they derive satisfaction out of seeing what they can accomplish for the absolute lowest amount of money. This rider's pump is going to be very affordable as well as very small and not necessarily have all the bells and whistles. Stop N Go Mini Air Compressor $36.95 I've seen many of these pumps out there and they seem to get the job done very well. It's made from heat resistant plastic that is claimed to not overheat. What's cool is even at a low end price it still comes with a built-in gauge and led light! Slime Power Sport - $30.10 This may be the most ubiquitous pump as it seems to be everywhere. Lots of people have it, but it's known to be a bit fragile to dropping and is also known to overheat and require a 20 minute cool down cycle after 9 minutes of use. Antigravity Micro-Start Tire Inflator - $24.99 I happen to have used this little guy (the smallest and lightest) for two years now with no trouble at all. Like the Stop N Go, it also comes with a built-in gauge and led light. It also works with my Micro-Start XP10 battery as well! AirMan Tour - $25.95 The AirMan is another one you tend to see a lot of motorcyclists carry. I like the built in gauge as well as a deflate button. Decision Time! So which of these pumps do you think works best for you? If you have experience you want to share we'd love to have you write your own product review here. Pump Comparo Chart:

SW-MOTECH 1 1/8" Barback Offset Handlebar Risers Provides a more upright, comfortable riding position by raising and retracting the original 1 1/8" (28mm) diameter handlebar. No need to replace your handlebars - simply remove the original top clamp, place the riser between the handlebar and original bottom clamp, and install the replacement top clamp using included hardware. Barbacks increase handlebar height by 30mm (1.18") and move them back 22mm (0.86"), producing an overall handlebar displacement of 35.4mm (1.4") at a 45 degree angle from the original position. When installed, there may be a slight gap between the bar riser and the top clamp. This gap allows the top clamps to be torque-tightened onto the bar riser to prevent the bar from spinning. Kit Includes: 30mm rise (1.18in) 22mm back (0.86in) Barbacks for 1 1/8" bars (1 pair) Top clamps for 1 1/8" bars (1 pair) Four M8x30 screws Four M8x20 screws SW-Motech 30mm handlebar risers.

Superb bike that does everything very well. Had this bike for 3 seasons and it was spectacular. Also, contrary to expectation, it has been PERFECTLY reliable. Perfectly, as in: I had NO issues. Zero. Nada.
  17. Looking forward to trying these new Rally pegs from IMS Racing I got from Rottweiler Performance. IMS is also know for their aftermarket gas tanks (smaller bikes) as well as shift levers and more. I'll do a review of these and report back later. As I understand it, the benefits are these pegs won't dull like aluminum ones, don't require screwed in teeth that can break or get lost and are stronger so they won't leave you stranded should they strike a rock. The description from Rottweiler's site: The 'Rally' series pegs have slightly 'dulled' cleats that while offering better traction in wet environments, are not sharp to the touch. A great combination of superior boot traction and safety. Designed specifically for Adventure riders by Adventure riders, the IMS 'Rally' series pegs vastly improve comfort and handling and are one of the more aggressive platforms for KTM motorcycles with standard foot pegs (IE; not Super Duke or RC8 bikes). The large overall length and width enhances comfort and the benefits are felt navigating dirt roads and on long stretches of open roads. The platform spreads the boot contact patch and lessens stress on the feet, legs and hips. Using body English to change directions of a 500lb+ bike is vastly improved as the pegs add leverage. Leaning the bike over and pivoting from one turn to the next is more efficient while providing better control when riding off-road. Superior Comfort, Enhanced Leverage, Lifetime Warranty and built in the USA by off-road market leaders since 1976. Fits all KTM motorcycles that have moto style foot-pegs. (IE; not Super Duke or RC8 style street bikes) -5mm Down -5mm Back
  18. The stock mirrors on my Tiger 800XC are great, but they don't fold on the trail and this is pretty much the #1 point of contact when riding bushy trails. So, I'd like to upgrade to some folding units. What is out there that is durable, easy to fold/unfold, and are solid enough to not vibrate on the highway, making them pretty much useless. The touratech units look nice: Any other brands that should be on my list of consideration?

  20. Hello, all. I own http://MotoReflective.com. Many of you already know us or have seen our products on the road. We've been making pre-cut reflective kits for saddlebags and top cases for more than 16 years. We're up to more than 80 Reflective Kits, and we have dozens more on our ToDo list. We're proud of our products, and the fact that we use only the highest quality 7-year/7-mil 3M retroreflective vinyl, and that our products are 100% Made in America, materials and labor. A lot of our kits are for BMW's because so many BMW's come with saddlebags. But we're starting to create kits for other brands as well. In fact, after the first of the year, we will be developing reflective kits for Touratech Luggage, and for the KTM1290 Adventure. Mostly new kits hinge on us getting our hands on a set of saddlebags for a few days, so we can do all of the prototype work needed to create a good-fitting kit. So if you're in SoCal and you've got a Tenere, or are expecting a new Africa Twin, we'd love to hear from you. For now, we'd like to share with you some of our BMW Reflective Kits, and show you our brand-new Reflective Kits for the Jesse Odyssey Luggage. Oh, and as a THANK YOU for having us on this discussion board, we'd like to offer everyone a 10% discount on any purchase at http://MotoReflective.com, through Christmas. Just type in the code XLADV in the coupon box at checkout, and you'll get 10% knocked right off the purchase price. WAIT! I have a better idea. Let's make it a full 20% OFF. And thanks again for having us here at XLADV. This may take more than one post, so please bear with us. There are going to be a LOT of photos. And if you don't see your Beemer covered here, (like if you have an F800GS or an Airhead GS, or maybe a previous year GS Adventure), check out the website. We've got many more kits there than we'll be able to show here. Let's start with the latest R1200GS-L/C. RK-36 fits the saddlebags of the R12GS-L/C Vario Cases. $29.95 RK-36X fits the saddlebag lids of the R12GS-L/C and not only looks good, but delivers outstanding lateral conspicuity. $29.95 Our basic kit for the R12GS ADV - L/C is the RK-38. Available in black or white reflective (both reflect back bright white). $29.95. Matching Top Case Kits are $19.95. If you just want reflective on the corners, to establish your bike's true width in traffic and take your rightful "lane presence," the following are our vertical corner kits. These fit all of the Adventure aluminum bags for all years, including the F800GS. They're available in Black Reflective (reflects white) and Red Reflective (reflects red). Again, matching top case kits are available as well. RK-40B Black Stripe Kit. $12.95 RK-40R Red Stripe Kit. RK-44B Black Chevron Kit. $12.95 RK-44R Red Chevron Kit. RK-46B Black Checkers Kit. $12.95 RK-46R Red Checkers Kit. The choices are varied, but the results are the same. You want to keep drivers off your backside. In street traffic. On the highway. When changing lanes. With these reflective kits and the others we offer, you can "Make Them Aware That You're There." Thank you for taking the time to look. Next, we'll show our new Reflective Kits for the Jesse Odyssey Bags.

Set your Adventure 950 / 990 free from it's short leash. Introducing the 'Rottweiler Performance Endurocell' extended range fuel cell. Fitting perfectly in the exact same circular space the left hand muffler once occupied (see our single side out muffler options) guarantees that this fuel cell will not clash with your aftermarket pannier system. As an added bonus, the optional Quick Detach hardware kit will give your Endurcell the ability to be removed by hand in less than 10 seconds so its not hanging around when not needed or to help fill a buddy. NOTE: The Endurocell requires an SSO (Single Side Out) muffler system. This is a kit that converts your dual muffler system into a 'Y' pipe out the right hand side of the bike. If you do not already have one, see the options to add on below or see here. Rottweiler Performance fabricates hands down the absolute highest quality 'Y' pipe SSO systems available for the 950 / 990 KTM Adventure. Add 35-50 miles to your ride within a 10 second attachment. (With Quick Disconnect Kit) Two sizes available: 1 gallon (3.79L) or 1.3 gallon (4.92L) Made in the U.S.A. and beautifully ARC welded by hand by skilled craftsman. Easier than your stock fuel tank to fill. No tiny fuel caps in strange places. Stainless hardware Ties into your lower crossover fuel line with a check valve. No back flowing or messy fill ups. Everything you need to easily complete the installation included. Nothing left out. No removal of any main fuel tank. Just drop the skid pan, turn off the spigots on the stock tank and splice in the barbed 'T' fitting. Build your own Endurocell! Listed below are your options with explanation. Endurocell Capacity: Available in two sizes, 1 gallon (3.79L) or 1.3 gallon (4.92L). Choose between a smaller package, or a longer range. Quick Disconnect: Add a Quick Disconnect hardware kit to your Endurocell. Remove it when it's not needed in under 10 seconds, use it to help fuel a buddy, or leave it disconnected as a 'reserve capacity' tank for emergencies only. A billet fuel line stow perfectly holds the dry break fuel line clean of any dirt or debris when not in use. Fuel cap filter: Add a fuel filter at the cap to keep dirt or debris from entering the fuel tank. If you get dirty, you'll want this. Just pull it inside out and smack it around to clean it. BRP Fuel Cap: Your Endurocell comes with a perfectly good cap, but a beautiful BRP billet fuel cap adds that nice final touch that looks trick. Single Side Out Exhaust: Auxiliary fuel cells require the conversion to a single side out exhaust system. Rottweiler offers the finest range of SSO 'Y' pipes and mufflers. See here for more information. NOTE: The first run of Rottweiler Performance Endurocells are being fabricated on a limited first run basis. All sales are first come, first served. If you purchase an Endurocell after they have run out, you have the choice of being early in line for the second run or a full refund. Second run fabrication may be 2 to 3 weeks behind the last sold first run unit.
