Updated for 2016! Rocky Mountain Saddle Bags are the largest, most comprehensive saddle bags we have ever produced, the result of years of R&D testing and refinement with a World Class R&D team. A secure mounting and compression system keeps these in place on virtually any side rack using the included Universal Saddlebag Straps, while still allowing quick release from the side racks. Internal stiffeners, held in sleeves, secure the load making them become almost rigid and firm, not floppy. Flexi-Side Panels allow both smaller and larger loads to be compressed securely. And we've added a grab handle on each bag. Packing and unpacking is made easier due to a subtle cone shape -- the top is slightly wider than the bottom. The included waterproof liners roll and buckle closed, slide in and out easily and make it simple to keep gear dry. The liners are made from durable polyurethane-coated nylon with sealed seams to keep water out, and are yellow, making it easier to see items inside. Total capacity is a voluminous 33 liters for each bag. These bags are sewn in Wolfman's USA facility utilizing our own custom vinyl-coated 1680 denier ballistics nylon fabric. The bags have a 35oz. vinyl bottom to compliment 22oz. vinyl back and front accents. Reflective striping runs horizontally from front to back. D-rings on the top and front of each bag allow easy attachment of a Small or Medium Rolie Bag as a top bag for even more capacity or just for convenience. Or add a Wolf Bottle Holster for fuel or water. For 2016 we made the following improvements to these already great saddlebags: Flexi-Side Panels which allow a much wider range of capacity -- between 23 and 33 liters -- plus improve load compression and create a more stable and secure connection to the side racks The internal stiffeners are now in sleeves 2” top compression buckles provide better load management and stability Four 2” D-rings on each bag for more accessory options, like a Rolie Bag or Wolf Bottle Holster Revised shape to keep bags level to side racks Revised waterproof removable liners More tailored appearance Other Features: Heavy Duty 1680 denier custom vinyl coated ballistic nylon 35oz. vinyl bottom 22oz. vinyl back, front mounts and removable Back Pad Ultra Secure 6-point mounting system per bag using heavy Duty 1” metal cam buckles Reflective striping Carry Handle Legendary Wolfman Quality Materials and Construction These saddlebags will mount to a wide variety of racks with the included Universal Saddlebag Straps. Racks must be oval/rectangle shaped and height of hoop (top to bottom) must not exceed 9.5 inches (24cm). We've specifically tested them with these racks: Wolfman Touratech Hepco-Becker Happy-Trails GIVI SW Motech Moto-Racks These Saddle Bags also work well with any of these Tail Bags: Expedition Dry Duffels Double Ended Renegade Duffel Overland Duffel Wolf Tail Bag Peak Tail Bag Rocky Mountain Saddlebags attach to side racks with the included Universal Saddlebag Straps. We took the whole process from concept, design and manufacturing very seriously, to make one of the finest large-capacity soft saddle bags anywhere. Dimensions: Length: 16" / 41cm top, 15" / 38cm bottom Width: 10.5" / 27cm top, 8" / 20cm bottom Height: 13"-16" / 33cm-41cm depending on amount of roll Capacity: 23 liters expanding to 33 liters each, so up to 66 liters per pair or 1400 cu.in expanding to 2015 cu.in. each. Up to 4030 cu.in per pair Color: Bag: Black with black vinyl Liner: Yellow

2017DEC15: After many years of multiple bikes in the garage, I have gutted the garage and settled onto one bike--the Honda Africa Twin. This occurred in early August, 2017. During the first four months, my AT has been to KY, VA, NC, SC, and of course many places in TN. With the exception of about 25 miles, all have been pavement miles and the OEM street tires. So, now that the winter temperature are moving in, the AT has been sitting more than the Concours 14 would during these days. Why? Probably time available to ride which is now different (temporarily), but also maybe wind protection and heated grips. Really, though my riding gear is good, heated grips are here awaiting installation, and there is some nice engine heat flowing on the upper legs, but it could be more that the days are shorter and I am having to re-ride the same roads to get into the hilly areas that are about two hours east of here. For the winter riding in my area, the street tires will remain fitted. In the mean time some 60/40 Shinkos are in the garage and will be fitted as close to a departure for areas out west. Have never used Shinko tires, but figure I would try these once. So, about the bike. I like it! Engine power/torque is more than adequate. Gearing is fine for pavement, but too tall for out west. Having ridden many nice roads in the Appalachian mountains and the Cumberland plateau, and of course the Tail of the Dragon, I have to say the bike works well. From the start, I was not confident in the skinny front tire, but the rubber compound is soft and sticks well. The OEM handguards are not robust enough for tip-over impacts with the ground, so Bark Busters have been added. Also, since I like having trail spares, the OEM levers were moved to the E12 saddlebags for standby duty. Some blue anodized short levers from an eBay seller in China have been mounted. These are sturdy levers and more economical to use. I had an orange set on the 690R and they survived four tip-overs. During the 2018 adventure, Givi quick release panniers rack and the new Wolfman Rocky Mountain bags were added. This adventure took me to the North Rim Grand Canyon (Crazy Jug and Toroweap) and some North Rim camping at Jacobs Lake for several days. Then, it was up to Kodachrome in Utah for a few days of riding in that area. Colorado was roamed as well.

this just might be the sweet spot between a 550 pound ADV and a gutless KLR. I have owned both.

  6. I figured now we have a bike, I'd put this thread here. What we have is a 2011 KTM 990 Adventure with just 3,000 miles! It's very clean and has never even been off road before. We hope to change that! My objective is to have a bike we can bring to all our regional events that can showcase some of the best the after market vendor world has to offer. It's purpose is to become a basis of discussion as to how these things make a difference in our riding. One of the reasons I picked a 990 is primarily because we couldn't get a new bike donated! It's also because there are a lot of people making stuff for the 990 and it has a lot of good real estate on which to put custom graphics wrap on. Besides, the 990 also happens to be a great bike in the dirt. It's also important to note here that none of this stuff is "free" that we're getting just because XLADV is so awesome. This bike came out of my pocket and most of the aftermarket parts are being provided at simply a discount. I'm happy to showcase these products and put sponsors' logos on the bike for their efforts. That's one thing I wanted XLADV to stand out for and that's a solid partnership with the v
  7. We are fortunate that Eric Hougen of Wolfman Luggage has shown us some love for our project bike in the form of his wonderful water proof soft luggage! Wolfman has been around since 1992, is made in the USA and they basically know what they're doing. Many have come (and gone) as well as flattered them with imitation but there can only be one Wolfman. How do I know their products are waterproof? I used a Rolie bag on my two week Bolivia adventure and three of those days were on a boat in an Amazon rain forest camping in the jungles at night. Eric Hougen actually grew up in Bolivia, so he knows what I'm talking about here. I first met Eric at AltRider's Taste of Dakar back in 2013. I wish I had a picture of his sweet Super Tenere but all I have is this one of him (third from right) ogling Johnny Campbell's Honda Dakar Rally bike. So what are we getting set up with? Expedition Dry Saddle Bags (reviewed here) Large Rolie bag Blackhawk Tank bag Wolf Bottle Holster (2) I'm eager to get some photos of all this new gear on the project bike. Perhaps the week of Jul 20 Stay tuned...

The Blackhawk Tank Bag fits the Wolfman line between the compact Enduro Tank Bag and the Explorer Lite. 8-liter capacity and trim lines give it great clearance for off-road riding. The Curved base contours snugly to most sloped tanks. The foam structure gives the Blackhawk “Soft-Rigidity”, allowing the bag to flex. The new Map/Clear Pocket is a step forward in versatility. We have taken the traditional “Map Pocket” and made it more useful to riders who use electronics; we have incorporated a strip of "Loop" material inside the pocket, and include a strip of Adhesive “Hook” to attach to your smart phone, GPS, Spot, etc. so they stay put. Items can be kept organized with one stealthy outside pocket and an internal mesh pocket under the top. The silver interior makes it easy to see the contents of the bag. A small removable/adjustable bunji-cord across the top provides a convenient spot for gloves and such while fueling. (Please don't ride with your gloves under the shock-cord or you may never see them again.) The Blackhawk mounts securely to the tank via our 4-point harness. The bag also incorporates fore and aft flexibility allowing the user to get the perfect bag placement on the tank. The Blackhawk utilizes the same 4-point harness as used on the Explorer Lite, Rainier, and Large Expedition Tank bags, making switching out bags a snap. Features: New-style removable Map/Clear Pocket with interior "loop" strip to stabilize electronics (1 Strip of adhesive "hook"–Included) Adjustable/removable bunji-cord, ideal for storing gloves while fueling up (Not intended for use while bike is in motion.) Large #10 YKK main zipper with extended weather flap Stealthy zippered pocket right in front of the rider Reflective carry handle and side accents Exterior D-rings (For M903 Shoulder Strap - sold separately) Interior zippered mesh pocket Interior Key Clip 1” 4-point mounting harness - Same harness as the Rainier, Large Expedition, and Explorer Lite tank bags Construction: Full 1680 denier P/U coated ballistic fabric Non-skid, non-scratch base 3/8” foam laminate body combines rigidity and flexibility Reinforced stitching throughout. All seams are bound Legendary Wolfman Design, Function, Construction, and Quality Dimensions: Length: Top: 9" / 22cm, Bottom 11 1/4 / 28cm Width: 7" / 17cm Height: Rider side: 8" 20cm, Forward-facing: 3 1/2" / 9cm Capacity: 8 liters / 490 cu. in.

Wolfman Expedition Dry Saddle Bags Wolfman went all out to create the Expedition Dry Saddlebags. They designed these bags to be durable and 100% waterproof for the most adventurous and aggressive riders around. Wolfman started with burly 22 ounce and 34 ounce vinyl, and used cutting-edge Radio Frequency technology for completely sealed seams. Next, they developed an ultra-stable mounting system. These sturdy bags attach to the proprietary Wolfman Side Racks with what is possibly the easiest mounting system available. These 100% waterproof bags seal out dust, mud and odors. Ideal in any climate, from the Wet Pacific Northwest, Rainy Emerald Isle, to dry dusty climates, and all weather in between. Roll-top closures seal the bags and make it easy to adjust capacity to suit your gear. The bags have two straps over the seat and each bag attaches to the Wolfman Side Rack at 4 points for maximum hold. The mounting straps double as compression straps to keep the load attached and tight. Wolfman also use an internal Butterfly stiffener, stiff back, bottom and front, which helps the bag retain shape and allows the load to be compressed tightly. Features: > 100% Waterproof fabric - 22oz body and 34oz bottom > Waterproof roll-top with no-wick webbing > Multi Compression straps to cinch the load tight > Recycled tire-rubber backing pad > Extra tall opening for size adjustability > Tough, functional luggage protects your gear > Radio Frequency welded no-leak seams > Roll-top closures seal out the elements > Waterproof top webbing won't wick in water > Sold as a pair > Black or "Don't hit me soccer mom!" I've been riding for for about 28 years on many different genres of bikes - from dirt, to cruiser, to crotch rocket. I have to say, this bike is by far the best I have had the pleasure of owning and riding. It's versatility, quality, and capability coupled with it's reasonable price point make it a win win!

The Triumph Tiger 800XC is a very well made, light, and maneuverable bike. Very easy to handle off road with plenty of umph to hang on the freeway whilst traveling to your off-road destination.

I was going to start the thread with a I've been doing a lot of LDR lately (Long Distance Riding, duh!) and I need more gas crap, but to be honest, I love how the extra fuel canister looks on my bike. The problem I had is that I didn't want to the rotopax to be on the sides or the back but on top of the side aluminum cases. Right under my Wolfman rollie bags. But there was no way to strap them properly so I had to improvise. Total cost of project: $15 Total man hours spent: 1 Total beers consumed: 3 Industrial Revolution Vanilla Porter (I love living in CO) Enjoy! Your standard ADV side case Your standard BMW straps Using the Wolfman rollie alone with the straps: perfect! Using the Wolfman rollie and the rotopax with the straps: disaster! The rotopax will just fly away with the slightest bump. The solution: Footman Loops for next to nothing (here) I also needed some STAINLESS STEEL hardware as well as some pieces of an old bicycle tube Marking the “G” spot Measurements because OCD Am I actually drilling a hole on my sidecar? I wonder if this will void the warranty… The tube will help the water to stay out (in theory) Screw -> hook -> washer -> tube in this order Thank the OCD for measuring… How did I make it crooked? Screw tight (boom, phrasing!) Cut the edges. Final product And here’s the magic! Yes, these are the original straps that came with my bike… This rotopax, won’t go anywhere! Not bad, right? http://i.imgur.com/9yhErV9.jpg Best think, I can still open my side cases with everything on them! Now I’m ready to go to my local Starbucks. Oh wait, I’ve got extra fuel! I can go to the one across town!! WOOHOO!!!! This post has been promoted to an article

Duffel bags are a great way to throw extra gear on a bike for any type of travel. And the Expedition Dry Duffels let you load up in style, help protect your gear, and stay stable on the bike. The innovative design makes loading and unloading easier than traditional duffel bags. The roll-top can be rolled more times for smaller loads or unrolled for just-one-more-thing capacity. And with three sizes available, there's a size best for any purpose. Short trip across town in the rain while the street clothes stay dry inside? Weekend getaway? Full-on kitchen-sink-style touring? Choose from small, medium and large. Four compression straps and two mounting straps keep things tight on the bike. The dual carrying handle and removable shoulder strap make off-bike transport easy. All Expedition Dry-Line bags are Made in the USA and feature heavy-duty vinyl construction with fully sealed radio-frequency welded seams. Roll-top closures with no-wick webbing seal out water, mud, and dust. We recommend a three roll minimum for maximum weatherproofness. Learn more about Wolfman waterproof luggage here.
