Information for New Carnet Issuing Authority in North America

Thought I'd drop some information regarding the new Carnet de Passages authority in North America here. When we had to secure our CdP it was through the CAA in Canada and received a tremendous amount of help from Suzanne Danis. Now that CdP's are being issued through Boomerang in the US, I don't have current knowledge of how decent the service is. I *do* have plenty of knowledge on what's required - so if you're looking for info on the carnet itself or how to use it, I'm happy to help - preferably through the forum so the answers are available to others!

In the meantime, here's the latest info on issuing authority:

Carnet de Passages en Douane

What is a FIA Carnet de Passages en Douane?

The FIA Carnet can be thought of as a passport for your vehicle.  It offers a promise/guarantee to a foreign government that the vehicle identified in the Carnet, if granted temporary importation status for tourism purposes, will be removed from the country within the time limit imposed by the respective jurisdiction.  In the event that the vehicle is not removed within the imposed timeframe, the country may claim from the issuing organization all duties and taxes that would be required to permanently import the vehicle to that country. Using the Carnet is an alternative to leaving a cash security deposit with a foreign government. It allows free movement and unencumbered access between many foreign countries. Most countries, but not all, allow this option. A Carnet is valid for one year from the date of issue.
