Taste of Dakar 2017

Yet another great event! Dennis and I are on our way back now.

All my pics and video are on separate cameras so you'll have to wait for all that.

Main takeaways:

New venue of Gold Point truly rocked. Wine Ridge RV resort was nice but wasn't an experience. Gold Point was an experience.

Tracks dried out in just two weeks and were MUCH drier which means more deep sand. Great for a challenge but the scenic riders got more than they bargained for.

Weather was perfect.

Minimal injuries so that is good.

What do others think?

You're right Eric, that is a sweet 950.  I don't know why Jeremy didn't have a give away prize for "the sweetest orange 950 with Repsol graphics"... :ride:

Overall, fantastic venue, there was so much to explore I'll need to come up a few days early next year.  That will probably work out well, then we can pre-run routes right before the event.

Kellon Walch is a way cool down to earth dude who took time to talk to a lot of us individually.  His presentation was super interesting giving us "bench-racer" types an inside look into Dakar.

The obstacle course that Dennis organized was really challenging and fun all at the same time.

Here's a couple of my favorite pics I took over this killer weekend.  -Greg

I had such a great time at Touch of Dakar.  I got to see some old friend, and meet new ones (GO CANADIALAND).  Great riding - the routes were very well planned (even though Eric swears the "scenic route wasn't this bad two weeks ago").  LOL.  Gold Point was a great venue for this event.  I'm looking forward to next year!

TOD 2017 was fantastic. The venue was perfect for adventure riders. Herb and Walt are a couple of those rare people who have chosen a unique life off the beaten path and we are the lucky ones who they let in to experience a bit of their adventure.

The intermediate riding was great. Sand is away of life if you ride off road in the west and I still had fun inspire of several crashes. Not mishaps. No injuries and only a bent shift lever. All in all a great weekend of riding.  But there is no substitute for practice, practice, practice before arriving at an event. Next time

This was my first TOD.  I've been to the Bear lodge GS Giantevent in the Big Horn Mtns and to the GSG and XlAdv high Sierra rides. An RV park in Parumph Nev does not call out to me.
