Off-Road Adventure 10% Road – 90% Off-Road RallZ is the most aggressive off-road adventure tyre in the Motoz range. Its DNA is part desert race tyre and part long distance adventure tyre. Based on the popular Tractionator Adventure but with more aggressive off-road traction in all weather extremes. Off-road Performance with reasonable on-road manners. Tested and Proven construction and compound for adventure and rally use. Self-Cleaning and Self-Sharpening tread pattern gives excellent predictability and power delivery. Designed in Australia for dependable performance in a wide variety of conditions without the need to change tyre pressures between off road and on road. Excellent choice for conditions from outback desert to coastal forests and fire trails. Hybrid compound with Silica for optimum grip in mud and snow. RallZ also available in range of Tube Type Adventure sizes for light weight adventure bikes.
  2. You've probably seen similes of motorcycles to women but how about tires to beer? I make this observation in an upcoming article in ADVMoto magazine on our #xladvproject990 when talking about the new VRM 401 tire from Vee Rubber that, similar to the craft beer renaissance in the American beer industry, it seems there's also a budding "craft tire" movement underway. Just as our choices in beer used to be limited to the mainstream of beers like Coors, Miller and Budweiser, our choices in tires used to be mostly from the big three: Michelin, Continental and perhaps Pirelli. Just as beer drinkers used to care more about what the bottle looked like and who was going to see them drinking it than the product inside, riders are now finding some pretty amazing innovation and features they find they prefer to what everyone else is doing. Take a look at three new tires I've seen come to market that I think fit this new "craft tire" definition: Vee Rubber's VRM 401 This is what I'd call a "Samuel Adams Boston Lager" of a tire. I've had the opportunity to test two sets of these tires on the #xladvproject990 bike and I was extremely impressed. It seems to me they took a look at the venerable TKC-80 and thought "how can we make this better?" The off road traction and clean out is even better I think due to the greater block spacing but one can also see a "faceting" of alternating rows of blocks I think as a way to mitigate road noise. The pavement grip is still on par with the TKC-80. Initial mileage reported was below that of the TKC-80 but a little bird has told me they probably, just as Kenda did with their Big Block, are hardening up the compound to be at parity. The rubber they're using is 100% natural and straight from the largest rubber producing country: Thailand (not pronounced "thigh-land" like Alan from "The Hangover"). I'd call it a 60/40 (dirt/street) tire like the TKC-80. Motoz's Tractionator Adventure Here's some video This tire I'd liken to a bold and hoppy West Coast double IPA like Stone's Ruination. I got a glimpse of these at the KTM Adventure Rally last year in Crested Butte, CO and when I posted a photo online, it went viral! It's review here has gotten more views than any other. They just look super chunky don't they? These too are made from 100% natural rubber from Thailand (even though Motoz is an Aussie company; pronounced "Mote-Oz"). This natural rubber gives better longevity as well as grip even when worn down. The secret though is that they just give you more tread to begin with; 15mm on the rear lugs. This is more a 70/30 (dirt/street) tire so try not to complain too much about the front tire's behavior in the first 100 miles or so. GoldenTyre's GT 201 and GT 723 Let's call the GT 201 an 805 Lager. A high quality, robust and long-lived alternative to perhaps the K60 or even the E07. XLADV's digitallysane reviewed this tire here. I really can't say it better than Lyndon Poskitt: GT 723 And let's call the GT 723 a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Less refined but still high quality and tough. Again here's Lyndon Poskitt's : So what do you think? Let your big bike riding friends know your thoughts by writing a review of your favorite tire in our review section. Putting it on Facebook is fine for a day or two but here it will last and be objectively compared to other tires.

If you have a long ride ahead, and you know the conditions will be rough, a Motoz Tractionator motorcycle tire is the right choice. The Tractionator Desert is designed to handle harder terrain, especially hard trails, desert sand with hard pack variations and fast rocky conditions. Its unique patented tread design handles off camber sections to help climb out of ruts and hard braking at extreme lean angles. Made from 100% natural rubber, nothing else provides the same elasticity, reflex and deflection for the best traction Designed for 95% dry and 5% wet, 90% hard and 10% soft terrain conditions Heavy duty case construction with a dense weave ply cord so greater strength and higher ply rating is achieved with less ply layers Constructed with thicker side walls for maximum strength Sidewalls and rim area are specially designed to protect the rim, but also to minimize pinch flats Vertical reinforcement section between the sidewall layers for greater sidewall strength Carcass is protected by a thick layer of rubber under the tread and around the sidewalls to help minimize punctures Rubber cushion zone allows a small amount of flex under the tread blocks to aid reflex traction and reduce chunk off, increasing tire life and acting as a heat sink to help cool the tire in extreme conditions Terrapactor tread block design and placement helps compact, compress or wedge the terrain creating extra traction, drive and lift This unique concept coupled with the use of superior rubber quality works to lessen the impact on the terrain and provide extra traction Crown Radius Section specifically matched to the application, not just a heavier motocross tire Specifically designed for quick fitting and reduced service times Good for long mileage, hard packed desert (like sand over concrete) Excellent absorption and puncture resistance for outback and dirt back roads Known all over the world for being dependable in the toughest conditions - used in desert racing from Morocco to Baja This motorcycle tire is tubeless These dirt bike tires are R rated for speeds up to 106 mph DOT approved Available in the following motorcycle tire size: 90/90-21

Man... I wanted this to be a 5* bike, but I can only give it a 4* rating. Suspension is holding it back... I bought this bike to replace my 2008 R1200GSA as a more streetable bike than my 2009 KTM 950 Super Enduro. It is that... for sure. It has WP suspension similar to my 950, but it has nearly 4 inches less travel. There is not much adjustment... I have tweaked it a lot... and just can't get it right. Other than that, this bike is GREAT. Ergos are great. Power is amazing. Neat machine.

MOTOZ designed them to get you anywhere on the globe and back home again. Long mileage, serious traction and smooth transition from pavement to gravel to dirt, the GPS does it all well. MOTOZ Tractionator GPS Tire is reversible to suit the rider’s needs – either 50/50 or Mostly Off Road. In 50/50 direction the GPS is a well behaved street-able tire with smooth cornering transition from centre to cranked all the way over. In Mostly Off Road direction the aggressive straight line hook up and cornering drive is engaged. Furthermore, it’s technically 25% stronger than many other adventure tires. They also feature deeper tread than most adventure tires. And the unique compound results in longer mileage. In conclusion, the Tractionator GPS means dependable traction in a wide variety of conditions.
  6. Well after taking Eric's fine advice last year I purchased some Motoz Tractionator GPS tires for my 800 Tiger to replace my second set of Heidenau K60s. I'd learned to tolerate certain aspects of the Scout as they were far better than the Karoo 3s I'd run before in terms of milage, but I still hadn't found that perfect tire (for me). I was getting about 2.5-3k out of the Karoos and about 4-5 thousand a set out of the Heidenaus and had gone through two sets of each at my 12000 last year. So I was open to a change. I tend to ride long hours and distances when I do ride and I almost always load poor kitty down with at least a tail pack if not a 2 gallon Rotopax for extra fuel. I only run panniers for training or multi-day runs as they are a bit bulky for just day rides of 500 miles or less and sand up your tires something awful when on pavement not to mention giving you heart failure trailside with clearance issues. Enough of all that, suffice it to say I'm in love with these tires! Fitted them as I say at Tiger's 12k and although they took 50 grams of weight to balance on the front(!!??) they didn't make any more noise than the Heidies. Outside of being even slicker when new and wet than the Scouts they have been about on a par if not the superior in every environment I've thrown at them. My particular usage is about 75/25 for the last 6000 miles on these and I can't speak as to how they operate in any desert or sand as it hasn't been dry or warm enough to access the deserts here but mud and rocks and gravel we have in plenty and these tire do just fine there. Here's the pics....new and after about 6400 US miles of 75/25....

The KTM 950R Super Enduro is to a BMW R1200GSA what a 250 Motocross bike is to a KLR650. If a 450 dirt bike was "the best dirt bike" and the R1200GSA was "the best Adventure bike" then the 950se is the perfect in-between bike. A dirt bike type weight with a 950cc motor makes this bike super versatile in most all terrain.
