  1. What are the top 5 things that were most unexpected, despite your planning? Anything you really wished you'd thought of before you left? I agree on the "just do it!" approach. I wasn't fully prepared for my first kid, but 15 years later, he's still alive. Must have done a few things right!

  2. Yes, HDPE is used for fuel tanks because it has great chemical resistance. Also plastic bash plates are often made from HDPE because it's great impact resistance. Cross linked PE is a modification from HDPE. Wikipedia says so: Cross-linked polyethylene, commonly abbreviated PEX or XLPE, is a form of polyethylene with cross-links. Almost all PEX used for pipe and tubing is made from high density polyethylene (HDPE). PEX contains cross-linked bonds in the polymer structure, changing the thermoplastic to a thermoset. Thermoset means that after material cures, it's properties change and you can't melt it again and remold. Thermoset materials are generally stronger than thermoplastic materials due to the three-dimensional network of bonds (cross-linking), and are also better suited to high-temperature applications up to the decomposition temperature. However, they are more brittle.

  3. I am looking at running a set of these on my new Super Tenere. With any luck, I can burn through a set before HIGH SIERRA and have fresh ones mounted for the festivities.

  5. Hi, First of all, I apologize for my not really good english, here in Quebec (Canada), the main language is french. My name is Vincent, proud owner of a BMW R1200GS since last year. Motorcyclist since too long (got my license 33 years ago)... I took a 10 years motorcycle break but now I'm back on the saddle. My BMW is equipped mostly for off-road travel (TKC80 tire, crash bars, headlight guard) but, of course, also rides a lot of paved roads.

  6. I have the RS4 on my Tiger. Much lighter than stock, sounds great, better throttle response, and it simply looks a ton better than the cartoonishly large cans that come on these bikes from the factory. BUT, not being spark arrested is a downer.

  8. That's a great idea too. As you unpack you can give a quick overview of what you thought of each piece of kit. Did it meet or exceed your expectations or would you try something else.

  9. I'm a soft-luggage type myself and this is the first time I'm actually convinced by a hard luggage offering. I like a lot the fact that they are narrow and light. Both these attributes are usually missing from hard luggage.

  10. I like that they are kind of both soft and solid. You get some of the security that comes from a lockable pannier but they'll deform if dropped (and you can pop them back out). They seem quite light as well. I've seen those other OEM commuting panniers and even the Pelican cases get completely destroyed from a tip over. These seem to be more durable.
