  1. Welcome Mike. Looking forward to meeting and riding with you. Your bike looks great. If it gets too cold this winter, think of a trip to SoCal. We're not all as "pushy" as Eric (ha!). Lots to ride here as well (as long as the gov stays out of it).

  2. Certainly not new to riding, but I did just buy a really decent 06 950 Adventure! It's had all the right mods done to it (just 19,000 miles) and I am now starting to add the right protection and farkles. First up is a black dog skid plate, some wider pegs (maybe pivots?), and some risers. I'm a web developer so naturally I had to blog about it - right? I bought a domain that matches my license plate (http://aufroad.com/so-i-bought-a-bike/) and will be using that to document my rides as well as my upgrades. Anyways, I just found the site, joined and thought I'd introduce myself. oh, and my name is Mike

  3. Love the Orange ones! I tried to find one just like that, but always missed it by a day. Enjoy & welcome! 06 is arguably the best year too, for those that prefer carbies.

  4. I'm planning to be there as well. It lines up well with the RawHyde event just next door. I'm coming from Oregon, through Nevada.

  7. ...and man it sure was! Hello everyone, my name is Ross, and I live in L.A. I met some of you at the High Sierra ride this past weekend. I came with Mike Thomas, and as some of you may remember, it was my first time on dirt since I was a kid. I have been riding street for 25+ years, but I had no idea what to expect from off road, especially on my F800 that Ive had for only a couple of months. I must admit I was a bit sceptical of what to expect at first, but as soon as that keg of Stone IPA got tapped, I knew I was with right group. Needless to say, i fell a few times, but I was able to get myself and my bike (mostly) home intact, and have a lot of fun in the process. Everybody I met was very welcoming and eager to share information to help me develop my skills, and it was all rounded off by the swapping of stories from all of our different walks of life around the campfire every night. I am now hooked on adventure riding, and I plan to try and get into a professional class between now and the Death Valley ride in November. Big thanks to everyone whom I rode with. Steve, Jonathan, Jim, Kenneth, Arwi & Maria to name a few. Some of the tracks I ended up on were a real challenge, and having to put aside my street riding instincts and attempt to learn a whole different style of riding which made it even more difficult, but everyoine stepped up and helped me power through it, and it was much appreciated. Thanks again for an awesome adventure, and I hope to ride with you all again soon.

  8. Hi there, I just got back form the KTM rally in Crested Butte, CO. Definitely was a great time. A few shameless plugs for XLADV around the campfire helped me remember what I should do when I get home! I hope to have some more adventures with some of you in the future. For now, here's some nice scenery from CB this weekend.

  9. Funny, I had the same thought![emoji12] Actually, I was a bit nervous as it was the first time I had taken the bike off-road so I was exactly sure how it would handle. I registered for the rally in January because my brother wanted me to get into adventure riding (he owns a 990), but I didn't actually have a bike. That was an awesome conversation with the wife! Anyways, the I re-worked the suspension and the rest of the mods came with the bike. I put 300 road miles on it prior to the rally. Let's just say I was happy it and I survived the weekend!

  12. I'm looking at the sg12's as well. The icon dkr boots are great and more protective than my trials balance boots but i need full blown moto x boots. As far as a suit goes. Just wear khakis with shin guards and a street jacket in a pinch. Boots are must.

  13. Eric, it was good meeting you at the KTM Rally and despite that fact it was me picking up my bike, I'm privileged to have made the cut! Epic ride Friday and it definitely put my Vee to the test!

  14. Thanks guys... It's fun... really fun! I'm completely hooked! A new event is being prepared for last weekend of October were a few pros of endure and Dakar are expected... I'm really tempted to go but unfortunatly I think I'll have to pass! I still don't have off-road boots and suit , so maybe I need to improve my gear for off-road first... can't wait to have more!

  20. I've had Jesse's on a few bikes and have always loved them. I'm actually in the process of getting a set for my 950. They're the toughest bags I've ever used.

  27. Thanks all. Yeah, that ride up silver canyon was my third time on dirt, and if there's one thing I learned its when to call it quits. Attempting to do something thats out of your league not only puts yourself and your bike at risk, but also risks forcing others to give up their fun in order to perform a rescue, and that aint cool. In my mind I did well, also considering my right pinky finger was fractured the entire time...did that loading the bike into the trailer on thursday morning. figures. I am in for that Oct 4 training, provided I am not predisposed. Ill check it out by tomorrow.
