Amazing machine. I've noticed its not as high quality as a BMW but its definitely built for my riding style. KTM has come short on my deal and hasn't activated KTM my ride, hill assist, quick shift, or heated grips. They don't know how to make these options work. It's been a month sense I bought the bike and I haven't got to fully use my bike yet.

  9. Sandpoint, ID, July 30, 2015 - Black Dog Cycle Works announces their new BDCW Ultimate Skid Plate for the KTM 1190 and 1290 Adventure motorcycles. Known for their first in class skid plates for BMW and KTM adventure bikes, BDCW brings yet another unique design to the KTM market with this skid plate. With their patented side stand relocation bracket they're the only manufacturer to remove the side stand from the engine case in order to avoid catastrophic damage to the case itself. "Our approach to the skid plate market is to analyze the vulnerabilities of bikes and address these issues with our designs. Time after time we've proven this with the strongest plates on the market. This is why expert riders love our skid plates and everyone else needs them," says Kurt Forgét of BDCW. The BDCW design has several notably unique features and benefits: The most engine coverage you can get This plate fully protects the clutch, ignition cover, header pipes and catalytic converter. Integrated side stand relocator doubles the protection! BDCW has relocated the side stand from the engine case with a PATENTED relocation bracket, eliminating the risk of a broken engine case from an impact to the side stand. More heft-5mm of thick aluminum The optimal weight to protect, perform, and last. In fact, this plate could outlive your bike. Smooth bottom for clearing obstacles No holes to facilitate spills or hang ups on rocks or branches. Glides over most obstacles without bolts, rivets, or "sliders" to snag or break off. Compatible with stock center stand Eliminates the need for an extra center stand bash plate. No need to purchase exhaust header guards This skid plate doesn't need backup support-it does the job on its own. Unique "Shok-Blok" protection Additional rubber bumper acts as a shock absorber against large impacts. Easy Installation All necessary hardware provided. Quick change artist Remove just 4 bolts for an oil change! Powder AND clear coated Looks great and takes the punishment that anodized finishes can't. Made in the U.S. -Tested and trusted worldwide!! MSRP: $525-$560 Fits: KTM 1190 Adventure Standard - 2013+ KTM 1190 Adventure R - 2014+ KTM 1290 Super Adventure - 2015+
  10. I first saw what was involved in removing a fuel tank on a KTM 1190 and was amazed at how many bolts and steps there were! I saw Tolga Basol do it in one of his videos and thought to myself "who wants to have to do that in the middle of Siberia?" This is something you need to be able to do in order to change your air filter. Well once you do it a few times it gets easier and with this new how-to demo video from Rottweiler Performance it's even easier.
  11. WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 6, 2016 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – RECALL Subject: Rear Shock may Leak Oil and Lose Function Report Receipt Date: MAY 10, 2016 NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V279000 Component(s): SUSPENSION Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,238 All Products Associated with this Recall Vehicle KTM Model 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE Model Year(s)2015 – 2016 Manufacturer: KTM North America, Inc. 12. Black Dog Cycle Works is known for their skid plates, particularly for the KTM's. I had one on my '11 GSA and have one now on the project 990 bike. They are the best. What's cool is Kurt from BDCW put his skid plate and some knobbies on his 1290 Super Adventure as I was hoping someone would eventually do. KTM seemed to shy to show this bike in the dirt but I knew it would be nearly as good as the 1190 and probably still better than the GS/GSA off road. I saw this in the mail today and thought I'd share... THE ULTIMATE ARMOR JUST GOT BETTER. Reimagined. Redesigned. After 6 months of development, we are very excited to announce our new design (2.0) of our skid plates for the KTM 1190 and 1290 Adventures. Our original 1290 skid plate was groundbreaking (literally), but we're not ones to rest on our laurels. Since we first released our Ultimate Skid Plates over 2 years ago, we've continually been out there riding and testing-and asking if we can make anything better for our customers. And when we see an opportunity to improve protection-we do it. Being a small, innovative company with a focus, we pride ourselves in our ability to develop the absolute best products on the planet for your adventure bike. Our original concept has more than lived up to our expectations, proving itself time and time again to be the most rugged, long-lasting skid plate available -- with top ratings for ease of maintenance -- a high priority in our book. So why redesign something this good? Our vision for excellence has elevated with our experience in the industry over the years. We saw an opportunity to fine-tune a few areas of the design, really tailoring it to your bike's specific needs. And we've listened to the market's requests for ventilation holes since the 1190/1290 motor can sometimes run a bit on the warm side. You asked, and we made it happen. 15. From the KTM Corporate blog: What lies behind the semi-active suspension from WP. As the flagship of the range, the new 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE meets all requirements for luxury and travelling comfort. Modern electronic rider aids help to improve riding pleasure and safety, thanks to MSC (motorcycle stability control) with cornering ABS and lean-sensitive traction control. The buzz is provided by a cultivated 160 hp of peak power and divine acceleration throughout a wide rev range. Sebastian Sekira, Head of the Street department in KTM Development, adds: “This engine is a dream for everyone who enjoys pulling out all the stops or just travelling along lazily with next to no gear changes. Even climbing Alpine passes in fourth gear couldn’t be simpler or smoother.” One special innovation in the extensive equipment is the semi-active chassis from WP. This makes the fine tuning of fork and shock absorber particularly easy, as the rider can choose between “Comfort”, “Street”, “Sport” or “Offroad” settings on the handlebar. An electronic controller on the semi-active chassis ensures that the suspension is adapted to riding style and road surface while on the move. The necessary information for this is supplied by suspension travel sensors on fork and shock absorber plus accelerometers at the front and rear. Tuning is based on characteristic maps stored in the system. The suspension reacts constantly in real time to unevenness or potholes in the road (or offroad track), subject to setting selection and speed. Suspension components use the integrated sensors to measure the speed of spring compression and the compression travel. The higher the value in each case, the harder the suspension reacts. The control unit regulates the damping of USD fork and shock absorber by opening and closing the hydraulic bores. The semi-active suspension on the 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE has the greatest effect in comfort mode, because the basic setup is soft and the valves only close purposefully for harder, tauter damping when the road surface is really rough. The sportier the selected setting, the tauter the basic shock absorber setup, because the flow through the valves is reduced correspondingly. Sebastian Sekira on the semi-active suspension: “This technology opens up new dimensions for riders. As with the riding modes, the chassis of the motorcycle can also be adapted to both personal taste and the respective situation, depending on whether you want to be travelling comfortably, normally, sportily or in an offroad manner. Especially in comfort mode, the semi-active suspension makes it feel as if you’re floating, but with very good road contact. You’re not decoupled, there’s always plenty of feedback and you’re completely safe. Even when vicious potholes or sudden unevenness crop up, the motorcycle remains dynamically stable.” One positive side-effect is that the semi-active suspension provides a slight anti-dive when decelerating. Sekira: “We utilise that of course. Since this in turn allows more efficient ABS tuning, which helps to reduce the braking distance when it really matters. In addition, the pitch compensation reacts to the load. The sensors adjust damping accordingly. This means fewer pitching movements while riding two-up when accelerating and braking, with hardly any detriment to ride dynamics. Consequently, riding pillion is also more comfortable for the passenger.” Photos: Buenos Dias | H. Mitterbauer | R. Schedl
