  1. I got this info at AIMExpo and thought I'd share since MITAS is one of my favorite brands (E09 Dakar mostly) and people are always asking where to buy: Durelle Racing Elizabeth, CO durelleracing.com Motorace Wilbraham, MA motorace.com RawHyde Adventures Castaic, CA rawhyde-offroad.com Twisted Throttle Exeter, RI twistedthrottle.com K and J Racing Solutions Saint Amant, LA 225-315-3423 Treats HQ, Inc San Francisco, CA Treatland.tv
  2. Stock rear Scorpion at about 10k is on it's last leg...with the other foot on a banana peel. I have a new Shinko in the garage...but I'm poor, in debt and cheap....can I push it a few hundred more miles of freeway commuting? Be gentle...my 04 KTM 950 ADV has been a VERY expensive girlfriend. Looking forward to better/chunkier rubber but if I can I want to stretch this as far as is remotely safe to do.
  3. Um... I don't get this article from ADVMoto on "5 Hot 50/50 Adventure Tires." I wouldn't call any of them 50/50 and they left out at least three I would call 50/50 tires (K60, E07, Tractionator GPS). Motoz Tractionator Adventure: 70/30 dirt/street Michelin Anakee Wild: is marketed as 50/50 but we all know it's at least 60/40 and they said a year ago it was a 70/30 tire Mitas E10: 60/40 Shinko 804/805: 60/40 Vee Rubber VRM-401: 60/40

Michelin announced the release of their new Anakee Wild tires. They are radial tires meant for 50/50 use (on/off-road) on adventure motorcycles. The all-new compounds and innovative tread pattern are inspired by Michelin's Desert Race tires. Offset blocks and curved tread grooves provide off-road performance improvements, especially in soft and challenging conditions. The front/rear casing design provides improved on-road stability as well. The Anakee Wild tires will be available from Michelin dealers starting on 1 March 2016 and are available in sizes to fit R 850, R 1100, R 1150 and all R 1200 GS and GS Adventure motorcycles. Available sizes: Front110/80 R19 120/70 R19 Rear150/70 R17 170/60 R17
  5. Who's mixing what tire brands/models front and back? I know this is common for enduro dirt bike riders, but how about when you spend 50-60% of your time on the street? Any issues to consider there? What are your experiences in the quest to find good street manners and solid off-road traction? What witches brew combos have you tried that worked out well?
  6. My favorite slow-talker Adam Riemann talks about having the right tires on your adventure bike. Could not agree more. I've never been the type of rider who is willing to trade performance for longevity or brag what I can do with street tires off road. Conversely, I do not mind going slower on the pavement because the dirt is what I'm really after. I can always change tires if I want to have a road-only ride. Having the appropriate tire off road is about SAFETY. No sense in finding yourself in the middle of nowhere with a tire that won't get you where you want to go. I first heard this from Jimmy Lewis and it's nice to see Adam repeat sage advice. As to these Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires, I tried a rear once and really liked it but for some reason they aren't that common here in the States. Adam is sponsored by Pirelli and I've also seen a lot of Mitas (Chris Birch) and Motoz down under.

    The acclaimed K60 Scout Dual Sport tire. A true “50/50″ dual sport tire, the K60 Scout brings a proven balance of performance on- and off-road. With an improved tread and compound, the Scout delivers better cornering stability and wet weather grip on the pavement, while delivering off-road as well. Caused by specific requirements on the tire, the profile of the K60 Scout varies between the single dimensions. > Scout 130/80 – 17 M/C 65T TL > Scout 140/80 – 17 M/C 69T TL > Scout 150/70 B 17 M/C 69T TL > Scout 4.00 – 18 M/C 64T TT > Scout 140/80 – 18 M/C 70S TT > Scout 150/70 B 18 M/C 70T TL > Scout 110/80 B 19 M/C 59T TL > Scout 90/90 – 21 M/C 54T TL > K60 120/90 – 17 M/C 68T TT > K60 120/90 – 18 M/C 71T TL > K60 110/80 – 18 M/C 58S TT > K60 100/90 – 19 M/C 57H TL > K60 90/90 – 21 M/C 54T TT
  14. Tackee! It's like cheating! Pleased to announce a new sponsor for the 990: Vee Rubber This is a new tire, the VRM 401. It's a big bike adventure tire from a company with a rich heritage in off road already.

The KTM 950R Super Enduro is to a BMW R1200GSA what a 250 Motocross bike is to a KLR650. If a 450 dirt bike was "the best dirt bike" and the R1200GSA was "the best Adventure bike" then the 950se is the perfect in-between bike. A dirt bike type weight with a 950cc motor makes this bike super versatile in most all terrain.

Great ride. Had a 2012 road that I started with and upgraded when I found a deal on a used XC. Larger front wheel and better suspension were huge. That said, the the stock suspension sucks for someone bigger than average. With some upgrades it has been a great dual sport and tourer.

Adapted from Adventuremotorcycle.com The VRM-401 is expected to be a 40% on 60% off road DOT adventure knobbie. This new tire will have wide deep tread blocks that should offer exceptional stability on sand, gravel and in light mud environments. The placement of intermediate blocks along the outer edges of the tire casing will increase stability and traction on pavement with less squirm in the twisties. The 401 also appears to feature a self-cleaning design for enhanced grip in all situations. Based on the popular adventure sizes that will be available, expect high load ratings suitable for 650cc-1200cc dual sport and adventure motorcycles. Motorace.com's eBay store shows the 150/70/18 rear for $159.99 and the 90/90/21 for $99.99. VeeRubber.com Available Sizes: 110/80-19 90/90-21 130/80-17 150/70-17 140/80-18 Other sizes to follow
  19. Has anyone done this? Think it would cause problems at freeway speeds? 7. Double tube your tyres If your bike has inner tubes (rather than having a tubeless design), you can double tube your tyres. This is where you cut an old tube around the centre and wrap it around the outside of the inflated tube. This acts as an outer skin to protect your inner tube from punctures, something you don't want to be getting in the middle of the Sahara! You will also need to ensure the lock nut is screwed up against the valve cap to allow the tube to move inside the tyre. http://www.adventurebikerider.com/news/1071-7-tips-to-perfect-your-sand-riding-technique.html

An innovative manufacturing process capable of producing a compound very resistant, and with high overall performance even after intensive use. Front tyre blocks optimised for better directional stability at high speeds. High traction even on the most demanding surfaces thanks to the specific geometry and to the layout of the blocks on the rear tyre.
